Recipe: Tasty Akkaravadisal
Akkaravadisal. Akkaravadisal also called as Akkara Adisil is a traditional Iyengar speciality. I have already posted akkaravadisal with sugar version, this recipe is Iyengar Style which uses jaggery, the recipe is also different so wanted to make a separate post, also we have Gokulashtami tomorrow so thought of posting it now. I love anything sweet so its was sure a treat for me , akkaravadisal is always my.
This is a typical Tamil Brahmin recipe (Iyengar recipe) and also my favorite dessert. Akkaravadisal should be in semi solid state unlike our usual sweet pongal. It will tend to thicken as time proceeds. You can cook Akkaravadisal using 7 ingredients and 3 steps. Here is how you achieve that.
Ingredients of Akkaravadisal
- It's 1 litre of milk.
- Prepare 1/4 kg of jaggery.
- Prepare 1/2 cup+2tbsp of ghee.
- Prepare 1 pinch of Camphor.
- You need 1/4 tsp of cardomam powder.
- You need 3/4 cup of raw rice (150 g).
- Prepare 3 tbsp of moong dal.
Switch off the flame, add cardamom powder, saffron soaked. Akkaravadisal is a delicious and mouthwatering sweet prepared in South India. This is a no fail recipe and is always tasty and delicious!! Akkaravadisal / akkara adisal is similar to sakkarai pongal.
Akkaravadisal instructions
- Wash 3/4cup raw rice along with 3tbsp moong dal. In a heavy bottomed vessel add 1 litre milk. Am using Bronze pot to make akkaravadisal. Preparing Akkaravadisal in bronze vessel gives unique taste. Add washed rice and moong dal..
- Cook on low heat, stirring frequently, until rice and Dal becomes mushy. After 40 minutes rice and dal mashed completely. Add 1/4kg of jaggery, stir it continuosly. Add 1/4cup ghee and stir well. Add 1/4tsp cardamom powder, pinch of edible camphor..
- Heat a pan with 1/4 cup ghee. Add 7-10 cashews and roast. Now add roasted cashews along with ghee in the Akkaravadisal and mix well. Add 2 tbsp ghee and switch off the flame. Now our Super Creamy Akkaravadisal is ready..
I have never tried this at home, but have tasted in SRC mess when I was staying in hostel. It was oozing with ghee and yummy. After that I haven't tasted or tried to make at home. It can be sugar or jaggery based but made with rice. In iyengar style it is made with jaggery and is famous neivedhyam in VISHNU temples.
